Successful Kid Rearing
At birthColostrum Ad Lib within 2 hours and again within 6 hours
0-4 DaysPreferably leave on dam otherwise feed goat milk from dam or freshly kidded doe, 3-4 times a day ad lib
4-10 DaysFeed 3 times a day up to 400ml each time and adding Oxymav powder once a day at rate of 1 teaspoon per 4 kids. Use goat milk (NOT FROM POOLED SOURCE) for first 2 feeds.
The next 2 feeds should be 1/4 strength milk replacer and 3/4 strength goat milk followed by 2 more feeds of 1/2 goat milk and 1/2 milk replacer. Finally another 2 feeds of 3/4 strength milk replacer and 1/4 strength goat milk and the kids should then be right to go onto full strength milk replacer.
Make sure clean water is available at all times. May nibble a piece of hay.
10-60 DaysFeed 600ml twice a day adding Oxymav to morning feed at rate of 1 teaspoon per 2 kids.
Offer good quality grain mix and hay. I use the milkers grain and the kids are offered up to 600 grams per day by the age of 5-6 weeks. Lucerne hay is always available.
Day 21Weigh kid and give Baycox 0.8ml per kg (single dose fed via bottle)
Day 42Weigh kid and give Baycox 0.8ml per kg (single dose fed via bottle)
Day 60Leave out morning feed and give 600ml in the evening
Day 67Wean and continue to give grain twice a day until 8 months of age.
