Caseous Lympahadenitis or Cheesy Gland

Cheesy Gland is an infection caused by pseudotuberculosis. It causes abscesses in the lymph system, the lungs and other internal organs. These abscesses are mostly seen in the neck, shoulder or flank but I have also seen them on the upper rear udder, the top of the head between the horn area and the back of the scrotum. I am fairly certain I have had goats with it in the lungs and spine although due to the cost of post mortems I have not had it done and I dont' have the stomach to look myself.

Well, anyone got any ideas? I have vaccinated religiously as per all directions with Glanvac 3 but with no success. I think the goats have less Cheesy Gland than they used to and many seem to only get the one abscess now instead of many over years. I have had phone contact with CSL (who make the vaccine) which was no help. I have tried not vaccinating as the vet thought maybe the bacteria were spread via the needle before immunity was developed - this only led to deaths from enterotoxaemia

If anyone has a solution to Cheesy Gland apart from heavy culling, please let us all know how you did it.
